What's For Lunch Yo!

Artist Courtney Moy has a new blog! Courtney's work is really fun and she's obsessed with food. She combines silkscreen and other print media with quirky realist (is that a thing?) painting. Lots of color and underneath the delight her work brings there are some seedy and depressing truths. Check out her blog by clicking HERE!!!!! If you are not convinced by my awesome writeup, let this wet your appetite.

Corey Corcoran's "Hypersleep" is super awesome.

"Hypersleep"is an installation by artist Corey Corcoran at Montserrat College of Art’s display space Frame 301. Corey's work walks the line between painting and sculpture in a fascinatingly precarious way. Its so awesome to see something that looks like its decomposing in front of your eyes. I find Corey's work gross and gorgeous at the same time. Its like the most beautiful, colorful, creepy compost pile and its so dope.

Here are a few other pieces not in this installation, but great nevertheless.
If you want to read more (or just something more articulate than what I wrote) about "Hypersleep" click here.

Portrait of the artist as Tom Friedman

Or maybe Portrait of artist Tom Friedman as the Fionn McCabe.
I love how many of Friedman's works are titled Portrait of the artist ____. Its such an awesome way to reassure everyone and pat yourself on the back. I genuinely like his work though.

Jellyfish Dreams

Some color back in my cold, grey world... A little at least.

Vacation!!!... Well strange cold vacations.

A possible show coming up in Boston called "Frostbite" got me thinking about life and art back in Mass. I just read Caleb Neelon's "Ten short memos to young Boston artists" which I found insightful and pretty spot on. Its interesting jumping into a new scene here in LA, having to figure out the new rules. Exciting and confusing. Come on Caleb, move to LA and do some sorting for me.

This unfinished piece is dedicated to my awesome coat, which I miss a great deal. The finished piece will be dedicated to rockin' shorts in January.

Sri Whipple!!!

Just got back from packing "The Hideout" away in Salt Lake City. Such amazing people and artists out there! One of them is Sri Whipple. Oh Nancy lucked out in getting him to submit work to "The Hideout" and now I have the pleasure of collaborating on some drawings with him. I will keep you posted on that, in the meantime here is some of his amazing work to tide you over.
Sri doesn't have a website, which is crazy, but he shows at the Brett Wesley Gallery in Nevada and is a member of The Oyster Pirates.
